Nigeria: Gov Obi Pledges to Rebuild Onitsha

Onitsha — GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State has expressed his administration's determination to rebuild Onitsha and upgrade it as one of the best in the country.

Governor Obi who stated this last Friday during the official commissioning of Onitsha North Local Government Headquarters thanked the Federal Government for recognizing Onitsha as one of the seven crime prone cities in the country, which necessitated special security attention to the commercial town.

He also disclosed that work will soon commence on the State International Conference Centre and Hotels which are part of basic infrastructure that will attract investors and encourage people to reside in the city.

Governor Obi charged the people to maintain effective sanitation culture to keep the city clean and resist being deceived by empty promises of politicians.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Dubem Obaze said similar projects were going-on in various parts of the state while all Local Government Headquarters have been rebuilt and transformed.

The Head of Administration Onitsha North, Dr. Aloysius Ezeabasili said Governor Obi had delivered democracy dividends that touched the physical, moral, educational and economic needs of the people.

The Traditional Prime Minister of Onitsha and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, Chief Chike Offodile said the Governor has remained a man of his words, humble and simple, urging the people to reciprocate by giving him total support.

The Project executed by Governor Obi administration after the relocation of the headquarters from its former site to pave way for the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium was completed, in line with the original status of the structure.
