Lagos — Contrary to reports that majority of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have signed to impeach the state governor, Babatunde Fashola, the lawmakers have denied having such a plan.
Some members that spoke yesterday stated that impeachment is something that takes a long process and the governor has not done anything to warrant his impeachment.
It was alleged that the lawmakers had already collected about 32 signatures towards a clandestine process that may lead to Fashola being served with impeachment notice over allegations of financial indiscretion.
However, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, Ipoola Ahmed Omisore, in a chat with our reporter, maintained that the impeachment talk that had been going round some parts of the state is nothing but a complete fabrication.
According to Omisore, "I can even swear if you want me to. There is no such plan to impeach the governor. I can also assure you that we have not discussed anything concerning impeachment. Some people are just speculating what is not."
When asked if he was carried as the chairman of the House Committee on Security, on the issue of the surveillance helicopters that were launched on Monday, Omisore said, "I am not complaining. The Security Trust Fund is not a government institution; it is not an agency under the purview of the state government. It's an agency initiated by the government and funded by outsiders. It's not an agency of the government, so I cannot go there and ask to open their book."
Reliable sources told our correspondent that the members are not happy with the fact that the governor purchased two helicopters and failed to carry the House along about the procurement.
"The House is really angry with the governor because he was supposed to inform the House on the procurement of those helicopters he launched. The House may not want to talk now but they are not happy with some of the things he is doing," the source stated.
However, Majority Leader of the House, Taiwo Kolawole, maintained that the impeachment rumour is baseless adding that "there is nothing like that and I can assure you that if such a thing should take place, hold me responsible.
"We don't need to comment on a report that is based on falsehood. So you don't expect us to promote something that is not true," Kolawole said.

I beg the members of Lagos State House of Assebly with whatever they believe in not to impeach Governor Babatunde Fashola. The Governor could be invited to explain to the House while he did not tell them about the hellcopters he purchased for survellance and security. Governor Babatunde Fashola is the best Governor that has ever ruled in Western part of Nigeria after Chief Obafemi Awolowo; he is the best among equals.
Many of his antagonists are not up to his small fingers in term of his achievements. For this reason, some of the so call power brokers are uncomfortable with his achievements. Please leave Fashola alone, what took Abuja more than fifteen years to achieve is taking Fashola less than four years to achieve them.
Governor Babatunde Fashola should be allowed to run for second term in office for him to complete his projects. The way things are going on, Lagos will soon overtake Abuja in term of strucural developments and it will be the pride of the nation and Yoruba people of Western Nigeria in particular. I don't know Fashola and i have never met him in my life but i pray for him on daily basis despiite the fact that i am not from Lagos State. If we could get thirty six Babatunde Fashola in Nigeria we will be singing Halleluya to God.
Don't get me wrong, i am not saying Governor Fashola is absolutely perfect, as humam being we all have our own weaknesses; to err is humam and to forgive is divine. Long live Babakekere of Yoruba land. The so call Awoists have betrayed the masses and you are the only hope of the masses in recent time. You are the only Commander in Chief in Yoruba land that i can follow to war without asking you much questions. Many of the so call Awoists are selfish, self centred, arrogant and blantant lyers who rode on the popularity of sage to deceive the masses. They dinned and wined with the devils and refused to speak out when it was necessary to do so. The masses know their friends and will talk and fight for their rights when it is time to do so. I am proud of you Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola.
