Johannesburg — THE proposed national health insurance (NHI) scheme would be too expensive for SA and an inappropriate model, says health economist Alex van den Heever.

He said as a base system the NHI model would be too inefficient to provide access to universal healthcare, one of the Zuma administration's election promises.
