Zimbabwe: Rapper Kapital K Shines

Harare — Kapital K, a Zimbabwean rapper last week performed in Lusaka where he shared the stage with Zambian musicians.

The tour was organised by AWOTAK Productionz, a music promotion company based in Zambia owned by Moxie Katowa.

During the tour, Kapital K performed alongside JK who recently featured on Big Brother Revolution eviction show, Slap D and Crisis with whom he has recorded a number of songs.

According to Katowa, the aim of the tour was to give youthful artistes from both Zambia and Zimbabwe a platform to showcase their talents.

"As AWOTAK Productionz we want to join up top artistes in the region through collaborations.

"The idea behind this is to increase the market audience from both countries. As you are aware, most Zambian artistes are at the top of their game and we are trying to work with these young talented artistes in the region giving them the support," he said.

Katowa said through their initiative JK who is one of the top R&B artistes from Zambia, had an opportunity to feature at BBA.

"My aim is also to make Zambian music more prominent in Zimbabwe and vice versa. In the last two weeks I was in Zambia with a very talented young Zimbabwean hip hop artiste Kapital K. We are taking Diana (Samkange) to do some recordings this weekend.

"However, Kapital K, did tracks with Crisis and Slap D, the two rising Zambian hip-hop artistes. Crisis is the first Zambian hip-hop artiste to perform at the Channel O Music Awards and Slap D performed at the MTV Base Africa Music Awards that were held in Kenya last month.

"I am urging all hip-hop lovers in Zimbabwe to watch out for Kapital K because this young man means business," Katowa said.

Kapital K is riding high with his two singles "Make Money' and "Touch Down" that are receiving generous airplay on Power FM, the Hott 99 show on YFM in South Africa and in clubs around Harare.

He also did tracks featuring JK, Klappa Heiz, Selma and Raydo of Digital X in Lusaka. Some of the tracks were produced by TK, who was one of the judges on Idols East & Central Africa on M-Net and Raydo.

His debut album is due for release early next year and it promises to be a hot one.

Already plans are afoot to host a concert in Zimbabwe featuring a host of Zambian musicians.
