Nigeria: Obiora Wants to Play for Country

Former U-23 striker, Obiora Anorue has made a claim for a place in Nigeria's line-up for the African Nations Cup tournament billed to take place in Angola.

Anorue said that he's prepared to fight for a starting position in coach Shaibu Amodu's team as the Eagles are dealing with a lot of injury problems at the moment. "I'm looking forward to an invitation from the coaches to prove myself. I'm really looking forward to be there," Anorue stated.

Anorue was a member of Samson Siasia's Dream Team IV Olympic Eagles that secured qualification for the 2008 Beijing Olympics before being dropped during pre-tournament preparations to make way for some big name players in the squad.

"I was hoping to play in Beijing but it didn't happen because I couldn't make it to the invitational tournament in Malaysia," he said. But the young man has not given up hope of representing his country and thinks that the Super Eagles coaches may finally afford him the opportunity of wearing the green and white jersey.

"All I need is the opportunity to prove myself for my country," he concluded.
