Namibia: Air Namibia Launches Windhoek-Accra Flight

The Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager at Air Namibia, Hellena Kapiya-Nathinge stated that some of the Air Namibia management and staff will travel and join their colleagues in Accra, the capital city of Ghana for the new route formalisation.

Air Namibia introduced flights from Windhoek to Accra, via Johannesburg, from where a direct flight to Accra will be?

The first of these flights commenced on Friday 20 November 2009 and will fly five times a week.

In addition, the airline also recently begun out five flights to Lusaka, Zambia, with a stop in Johannesburg.

Kapiya-Nathinge said the airline has been operating 12 flights a week between Windhoek and Johannesburg, but now the number of flights has been increased to 14 flights per week or double flights daily on the same route to Accra and Lusaka. The departure times have also been adjusted to early and late departure from both Windhoek and Johannesburg-to allow people more time to do business in either country.

With the fifth-freedom traffic rights granted by the respective governments of South Africa and Ghana, Air Namibia is allowed to pick up passengers and consignment in Johannesburg before proceeding to Accra.

"The granting of fifth-freedom rights is a significant step towards liberalisation of Africa's skies and gives passengers greater affordability and choice", Kapiya-Nathinge expressed.
