Harare — ECONET Wireless Zimbabwe Limited, the country's largest mobile phone operator, has initiated a multi-billion dollar project to develop Zimbabwe's fibre-optic telecoms backbone, which would link the country to the undersea cable via Maputo, Mozambique.
The fibre-optic link went live in July when the Seacom submarine cable landed in Maputo from India and several branching units have been installed at the landing terminal for the benefit of land-locked countries.
