Uganda's Human Rights Record Improves

Kampala — UGANDA'S human rights record has greatly improved, but cases of torture and illegal detention by state agents threaten the fundamental human rights, donors have warned. Allegations of violence by security agencies such as Police, army and Prisons have undermined people's rights and freedoms.

"The human rights situation in Uganda has steadily improved over the last three years due the cessation of hostilities in northern Uganda, the change in approach to the disarmament process in Karamoja, and law reform efforts," ambassador of Ireland Kevin Kelly said.

However, the envoy noted that there were more cases of human rights abuse reported in the year 2008.
