Somalia: Heavy Clash Kills Three, Wounds Seven Others in Mogadishu

Somalia — At least three people have been killed and seven others have been wounded after heavy clashes between the transitional Federal Government troops backing by AMISOM and Islamist fighters in parts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, witnesses told Shabelle on Sunday.

Two civilians were killed on Saturday evening as a mortar shell landed into their house at Sigale neighborhood in Hodan district as limited clashes between the two rival sides continued in parts of the Hodan district in Mogadishu.

Reports say that the fighting started as the Islamist fighters attacked the military positions of the transitional government troops in parst of Hodan district where the soldiers were making a military movement on Sunday morning.

Most of the people died and wounded were civilians and affected by the bitter fighting with shelling continued overnight until Sunday morning.

On the other hand the movement of the traffic on Warshadah street especially Raderka and ex-control Afgoi, a key checkpoint for the transitional government soldiers was blockaded as more vehicles were in a stuck in the southern side of the capital.

One of the drivers told Shabelle radio that the Islamist fighters informed them yesterday afternoon that the street could not be used at all.
