Gambia: LRR Drivers Grateful to President Jammeh - As South Bank Road Construction Progresses

Drivers plying the Trans-Gambia Highway(Soma-Basse) in the Lower River Region have expressed gratitude to the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh for the ongoing construction of the road, which is one of the most important roads in the country.

This move by President Jammeh's government according to them, is a bold step and came at a time when the condition of the road was very poor. The Daily Observer's LRR correspondent over the weekend went out to gauge drivers' reactions at the Jarra Soma car park. Falla Bah, the president of the Soma car park thanked Allah for giving The Gambia such a leader like President Jammeh saying he is transforming the country to a level that no one expected.

He described the construction of the road as timely and a welcome move by the government. According to him, when the road construction is completed, it will not only ease the difficulty in the movement of people and goods but will also save drivers from the cost of vehicle maintenance and numerous accidents due to bad road.

Seedy Sanneh, a driver from Sankwia village in Jarra West District, expressed delight at the construction of the road, noting that as commercial vehicle drivers, they can only make money if the road is in a good condition. Alhagie Ceesay, another driver, praised the leadership of the country for the project indicating that the road will greatly help them work accordingly. He went on to hail the government for the steps taken to transform all road networks within the country.

In a similar but separate interview, Adrian Corish, the chief security officer of Ballast Nedam, a Dutch company contracted for the road construction, also expressed gratitude to the government of The Gambia under the leadership of President Jammeh.
