Sudan: EU Delegation Makes Assessment Visit to North Darfur

A delegation from the European Commission (EC), an executive body of the European Union, arrived today in El Fasher, North Darfur, on a fact-finding mission.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the situation and to make recommendations about the feasibility of deploying an observer mission for the 2010 general elections.

The delegation met with Acting Joint Special Representative, General Henry Anyidoho who briefed them on UNAMID's various contributions to preparations for next year's elections. They also met with UNAMID's Political Affairs and Rule of Law divisions.
