Nigeria: Youths Advised On Responsible Citizenship

Lagos — Nigerian Youths have been urged to embrace training that will improve their lives for the better and make them responsible citizens.

Proprietress of Silver Spring Nursery School, Ijesha in Lagos, Mrs. Laide Fawehinmi, said this at an event organised by the school's management to round off the year.

Fawehinmi said lack of proper developmental training has been the cause of rising illiteracy level and under-development in our nation, adding that institutions of learning should address issues within Nigeria's realities, using case methods as teaching methodology and the modelling programmes for our youths, to improve their social interaction.

In response to a question on the affordability of school fees, she said, "schools charge high fees because the cost of education is high," and that the economic meltdown is also affecting school owners.

She appealed to policy makers to engage more in research, and design programmes that will make institutions of higher learning proactive, to be able to assist government and the economy.
