Minna — Following acute water problem in Minna the capital of Niger state, the state government has moved to work out plans to ensure constant water supply for at least 30 years, the commissioner for water resources, Dr Yahaya Vatsa has said.
Vatsa who made the disclosure Saturday in Minna stated that the hardship experienced in the state a couple of months ago in the area of water supply was as a result of two broken dawn transformers.
He revealed that the state government has acquired a new set of transformers adding that it has also drafted a proposal to ensure constant supply of water for a period of 30 years.
According to him, contacts have already been established to get water resource experts and partners to embark on the planned project which he said will soon be put in motion.
Dr Vatsa however maintained that no matter how good a strategy to get water to the state is, it depends on the availability of water to actualize the plan.
He said to put to rest the issue of having water resources, the state government has moved in to tap from river Manta to augment the Tagwoi dam which he said is currently undergoing dredging.
Meanwhile, he revealed that the state water board need at least 16 high lift pumps which he said eight has already been provided which he said cost the state the sum of N149 million, adding that the next batch of eight will cost the same amount.
