Ghana: Tafo MP Shares Joy With Prison Inmates

Kumasi — INMATES OF the Kumasi Central Prisons were proud beneficiaries of food items and pieces of cloths worth over GH¢3,000, donated to them by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Old Tafo constituency in Kumasi, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, last week Wednesday.

The presentation of the items made up of 70 pieces of cloths, ten bags of rice and a gallon of cooking oil, forms part of activities marking this year's annual graduation ceremony of the Wealth Creation and Social Development Centre, a vocational institute set up by the MP to train the youth in his constituency, in various occupational skills.

Presenting the items to the inmates at a brief ceremony last Wednesday, Dr. Akoto Osei said the gesture was his widow's mite towards ensuring that prison inmates celebrate the yuletide with joy and happiness.

He said the welfare of prison inmates across the country had always been of major concern to him during his tenure at the Finance Ministry, and that he had never hesitated in making funds available for their upkeep.

The former Finance Minister said he would continue to put the issue of prison inmates in the country across Parliament, and make sure their concerns were adequately addressed.

The items were received by the Acting Prison Officer, Ali Derri, and the Chaplain, Rev. Martin Padi, who expressed gratitude to the MP for the kind gesture, and hoped that other honorable members would emulate the shining example of their colleague.
