A NINETY-YEAR-OLD woman of Kabwe's Waya Township has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for drug trafficking.
DEC spokesperson, John Nyawali, who confirmed this to the Times in Lusaka yesterday, said Sineya Mulenga was arrested after being found with cannabis in her house at the weekend.
Mulenga is a second offender as she was four years ago arrested and convicted after being found guilty of a drug trafficking offence.
The suspect was slapped with a sentence of five months imprisonment.
She is currently detained at one of the police stations in the district and Mr Nyawali said she would appear before a magistrates court today.
"The commission would like to warn members of society that it will arrest and prosecute anyone found trafficking in illicit drugs as provided by law, regardless of their age or physical status.
"As such, we would appeal to the physically challenged and other vulnerable members of the society to stop being used as drug couriers to avoid being punished by law," he said.
He said drug trafficking was a non-bailable offence and attracted a custodial sentence.
He called on all law-abiding citizens to rise up and help in the fight against the vice.
