Ghana: Chairman's Cup, Here to Stay

The Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), Mr. Oko Nikoi-Dzani, has stated emphatically that the newly-established hockey championship "Chairman Hockey Challenge Cup," will take a paradigm shift in subsequent editions.

"The subsequent editions of the competition, will see improvement, in terms of resources, and have purposed to expand it beyond Accra, to make it look more national," Mr. Dzani revealed in a post tourney remark at the National Hockey Stadium in Accra last Saturday.

According to the hockey boss, the successful organisation of the tournament had set the tone for the development of hockey in the country.

He noted: "The competition, intended to sustain the interest of the sport, has come to stay, and will not be a nine-day wonder."

And in his bid to sustain the interest of hockey, a series of programs and competitions like the Afahye Hockey tourney,

Homowo, spreading it to schools, especially the second cycle institutions have been rolled out to realise that objective. Mr. Nikoi-Dzani told the press that he injected close to GH¢25,000 in the organisation of the four-week hockey championship.

And for the excellent arrangement of the championship, the organising committee of the competition rewarded the hockey boss with a special prize.
