Tunis — In a press conference held on Wednesday in Tunis, the Minister of Public Property and Land Affairs Mr. Ridha Grira and Mr. Issam Youssef Jenahi, the Executive Chairman of "Gulf Finance House", announced that the company will begin operations in September 2010, with the launch of the first part of the project near Kalaat Landlous in the Governorate of Ariana.
Mr. Jenahi said that direct investments earmarked fo the achievement of this first part will reach up to 180 million dollars.
He added that this first part will focus on the achievement of the infrastructure namely, roads, drinking water, electricity, gas, communications, sewage and rain water drainage, as well as thesetting up of a golf course, a marina and a financial center.
He stressed that the Tunis Financial Harbour company signed an agreement amounting to 14 million dinars with the Tunisian Computer Engineering Company (STUDI) and a 10 million dinar agreement with with SCET Tunisia.
Mr. Jenahi noted that the two Tunisian companies submitted the best technical bids, highlighting their international expertise and thus guaranteeing the setting up of an infrastructure project that complies with international standards.
Covering an area of 523 hectares, the Tunis Financial Harbour, is a financial, banking and property mega-project which will also comprise shopping, banking, investment and consulting facilities, as well as a top of the range residential, commercial and tourist units.
The Tunis Financial Harbour is the first offshore financial center in North Africa and the second of all offshore financial centers. It is estimated that all of the project's components will be fully operational by 2017.
