Agordat — At a meeting with representatives of the inhabitants of Agordat and Dige sub-zones, the Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, stated that concerted endeavors along with close collaboration of the people and administrative bodies is imperative for putting land plots under cultivation in a manner that reduces soil erosion and boost production.
He indicated that the necessary study has been undertaken and is already in the process of implementation with a view to making investment in the region particularly in the agriculture sector, become effective and fruitful.
The Administrator further pointed out that the newly introduced work methodology focusing on trading activities, irrigation and rain-fed farming practices is in line with efforts to prevent soil erosion along big and small river banks and promote biodiversity.
To this end, Mr. Kahsai called on the local inhabitants to demonstrate the necessary collaboration in the implementation of the program as they are the main beneficiaries. He went on to say that the changes being introduced in handling farmland are based on the study conducted by experts and professionals, and that all the measures that need to be taken rest on legal grounds.
The participants of the meeting asserted that they would fulfill what is expected of them in implementing the program, besides putting forth various opinions.
