Rwanda: Japanese Embassy to Open in January

Kigali — The government of Japan will on January 1 open its Embassy in Kigali, The New Times has learnt.

The development follows a recent visit by an 18-member Japanese public and private sector delegation to Rwanda, ahead of the Africa-Asia Business Forum (AABF) that took place in Kampala, Uganda mid this year.

The group was in the country to study areas of cooperation with major emphasis on investment in the tourism sector.

Preparations to set up the embassy in Kigali began in August this year. The development means that all diplomatic transactions between Rwanda and Japan will take place locally. Previously, they were handled through the Japanese Embassy in Kenya.

Last year, 1,400 Japanese tourists visited Rwanda.
