Zimbabwe: Zesa Ordered to Pay

Harare — THE Labour Court has ordered Zesa Holdings to pay a retrenchment package estimated at around US$200 000 and all outstanding benefits, including motor vehicles, to its former executive director (corporate affairs) Mr Fortune Sambo who has been on indefinite leave since August 2006.

Arbitrator Mr John Mawire handed down the judgment early this month.

"The parties negotiate and agree on a retrenchment package within 14 days of receipt of this award, failing which either part may refer the matter to the national retrenchment board to be dealt with in terms of the Statutory Instrument 186 of 2003," reads part of the judgment.

Mr Mawire said the retrenchment package should be calculated at the E Upper 2 grade, part of the grading system used by Zesa Holdings.

Zesa Holdings was also ordered to pay the full legal costs of Mr Sambo.

Mr Sambo was engaged as an executive director (corporate affairs) from March 1, 2006 and had the right to sit on board meetings.
