Gambia: Abdourahman Dampha Harps On His Career

Ex-GPA midfielder, Abdourahman Dampha alias Del piero talks on his career in an interview with Foroyaa sport, below is the excerpt.

Q. Dampha, you went on triail to Sandefjord fc (Ebrima Sohna's team), can you sensitize our readers on that?

Dampha - yeah I went to Sandefjord in January, when I came back, an agent from Mauritania who saw me in the Caf champion's league match, when Ports played against ES Bengerville took me to Algeria where I sign a professional contract with SC Saida, a first division team.

Q- SC Saida relegated to the second division and you were left with no other choice but to look for a better place to ply your trade and the Algerian FA's law has it that foreigners cannot play in their second division, how did you feel?

Dampha- yeah, I felt sad, any way other clubs from the first division wanted to secure my services but I wanted a better place like Europe where I can improve my standard.

Q-Rumors have it that you encountered problems in Algeria. Could you tell us more on that?

Dampha- Well don't mind about that, I prefer not to talk about it.

Q- O.k. if you insist

Q- Your agent Yusupha took you to Norway on a trial to Abdou Darboe's club Honefoss, and then they were in the second division, though they have won promotion to the Tippeligean (Norway's first division league).

Dampha- Dampha-yeah my agent Yusupha whom I have been working with for a long time took me to Norway around June / July. I trained with the team and the coach was impressed and wanted to sign me, but I was then seventeen, and I am suppose to reach eighteen this Sunday. But the reason why they did not sign me was because of Mikel Obi's controversial case. The team wanted to keep me till the end of the season but there was this Xamax of Switzerland who was keen to sign me, but then their sporting director had already talked to my agent. It was then that I flew to Switzerland and I had four day training with them. Later they conducted a test match with one of those second division teams. It was after the game that the coach revealed to me that they wanted to sign me on a four-year-deal. And the team is one of the biggest clubs in Switzerland.

Q- How was it like to re-unite with him and what impact has it on you?

D- It was good and I was impressed.

Q-Having How was it like signing a four-year-deal with a European club for the first time, what was it like to you, a teenager?

Dampha- I thank God really because my aim is to sign a contract in Europe and now I have that opportunity. It was before I came to the Gambia that I signed with the team. In January, I have to go back to formalize things and for the presentation.

Q- When actually did you put pen to paper? I mean the date.

Dampha- It was on the 6th of November Q-signing this deal means playing in the same league with Pa Modou Jagne, Nda for short?

Dampha-Pa Modou, was my team mate at Ports Authority.
