A THIRD suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of a security company owner who was killed in a street robbery in Windhoek's Northern Industrial Area early last month.
Almost six and a half weeks after Andries de Jager, owner of HAMS Security, was fatally shot during a robbery on Windhoek's Iscor Street on November 2, the third suspect to be charged in connection with the incident appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on Thursday last week.
Like two co-accused who have appeared in court previously, Otjiwarongo resident Fillipus Shishiveni Nomongula (32) is facing five charges in connection with the events that claimed De Jager's life.
These are counts of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, the discharge of a firearm in a public place, and possession of a firearm without a licence.
Nomongula made a first court appearance before Magistrate Claudia Claasen on Thursday. Having been joined as an accused in the case in which two other suspects, Willem Kawulefelwa Valombola (38) and Toivo Kashipolo (31) had been charged earlier, Nomongula was informed of his rights to legal representation and told that he would have to make another court appearance with his two co-accused on January 29.
Nomongula was also told that he would remain in custody in the meantime.
De Jager (68) was shot when he and a colleague were attacked by robbers on their return from a bank where they had gone to collect money to pay the wages of employees of HAMS Security.
An amount of N$172 488,10 is alleged to have been stolen from them during the robbery.
A shootout with the robbers ensued and one of the robbers was wounded in the process. He was arrested at the scene, and the money was recovered.
