Tunisia: Follow Up of Upgrading Program of Hotel Units

Tunis — As part of Tunisia's policy to upgrade its hotel units, Mr. Khalil Lajimi, Minister of Tourism chaired on Thursday a meeting of the steering committee of the upgrading program for hotel units.

The meeting focused on the presidential measures decided including the rehabilitation and renovation of Tunisian hotels.

During the meeting, the minister urged committee members to ensure the good quality of diagnostic studies.

The upgrading program has registered nearly 224 membership applications of which 154 were approved amounting to 35% of the overall number of the hotels.

Investments in the sector have reached 312 million dinars and the premiums approved by the State have exceeded 10 million dinars.

According to recent official data, 75% of the hotel units committed to renovate their premises have started their upgrading program, whereas 20 hotel managers have managed to achieve 50% of their target plans after having benefited from the 150, 000 dinars premiums for each hotel unit.
