Gambia: I-Media Presents Documentary to President Jammeh

A seventeen series documentary entitled: 'The Gambia in motion' produced by the Gambian based media firm, I-Media, was yesterday presented to The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh through the vice president and minister of Women's Affairs, Her Excellency Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, at State House, Banjul.

The documentary, which was contracted to the I-Media and started in August this year, promotes and highlights the major development projects of the government under President Jammeh with a strong emphasis on the tourism sector. Receiving the documentary on behalf of President Jammeh, the vice president thanked the chief executive officer of the I-Media Fatou Camara-Saidy for the production of a documentary which she said could be called 'our own'. The production, she added would be very instrumental especially at this time when the country is on satellite.

The vice president told the gathering that the president has and continues to have confidence in the capabilities of what Gambians can do, noting that since 1994 to date he has been giving the citizens the opportunity to give their best for the country. She commended President Jammeh's leadership style, noting that he is a leader with a sense of vision, purpose and determination towards nation building. To this end, she hailed the I-Media for the hard work, saying that they have proven that it can be done in The Gambia. The vice president commended the Gambia Radio and Television Services, who are the co-producer of the documentary for complementing the efforts of the I-Media.

The minister of Tourism and Culture, Nancy Njie thanked the president for financing the documentary and also commended him for his concern to the tourism sector. She underscored the significance of the sector, saying that it has contributed tremendously to the socio-economic development of this country. The documentary, she added will boost the sector. The attorney general and minister of Justice, Marie-Saine Firdaus, said the title of the documentary 'The Gambia in motion' is very fitting, noting that it will showcase the country in terms of tourism haven, and the prevailing peace and stability in the country.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Communication, Information and Information Technology, Alhaji A Cham, told the gathering that they were identified by the president to form a taskforce in which they coordinate with the CEO of I-Media for the production of this documentary. He commended Fatou Camara-Saidy for being very cooperative during the course of the work. He also commended the taskforce team members for their input as well as all the sponsors for their support.

For Fatou Camara-Saidy, the chief executive officer of the I-Media, it was not an easy task but noted that with dedication and commitment of duty to work, they were able to overcome the challenges in producing a documentary of such magnitude. She revealed to the gathering that the initial documentary was supposed to be 14 series but that they have increased it to 17. She commended the Gambian leader for his support and for awarding the contract to her company, describing it as a demonstration of his government's support to The Gambia's private sector.

The I-Media chief also commended the support and collaboration of the Gambia Radio and Television Services for their invaluable role in the project, as well as other stakeholders.The ceremony which was attended by ministers was moderated by Modou Saidy, press officer at State House.
