Nigeria: Attempted Bombing - 'Don't Tag Country Terrorist Nation'

Abuja — As investigation continues across the US and Nigeria on the attempted bombing of the Detroit bound Delta Air plane by Umar Farouk AbdullMuttalab, who is due to appear in a Michigan Court on January 8, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has called on the US authorities and other western nations not to tag Nigeria as a terrorist nation with potential threat.

Ogbeh made the call yesterday in Abuja when he spoke to Thisday, saying that, "last year there were Britons, who bombed some locations in the country, till date, the country has not been tagged a terrorist country even though citizens of that country had been caught in terrorist acts".

According to him, "it will be wrong to tag Nigeria a terrorist country because of the attempt by the Nigerian Umar AbdullMuttalab, as Nigeria is not known with any terrorist act, the young AbdullMuttalab was just driven into the act and the situation does not make Nigeria a terrorist nation", he said.

While stating that the actions of Umar's father, Alhaji Umaru Muttalab in reporting his son radicalism to the US authorizes should be commended, he maintained that, "the Muttalabs must have gone though pains before they could gathered courage to take such step, and therefore should be commended for taking such bold steps".

The former PDP Chieftain wondered, "where else will a father take such steps of warning authorities about the attitude of his son knowing fully well of the consequence, what reason have the Americans have to give for ignoring such advice?", Ogbeh asked
