Mufu Onifade, Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, on Tuesday called for a policy to compel Nigerian artists to highlight only the positive aspects of the country's cultures.
Onifade said in Lagos that many Nigerian art works conveyed the negative side of the nation's cultures and that it was not in the interest of the country's image.
He was speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The artiste said a cultural regeneration policy would boost the nation's image and properly regulate arts practice.
"In the 60s and 70s, pan-Africanism was the guiding ideology to help African culture to be rejuvenated, today we need a conscious cultural policy to re-invent Nigeria.
"This policy will enable Nigerian artists to be more committed to the building of a positive image for our culture and our country.
"It will also stand as a guide to us and make us to embrace our tradition and our culture rather than copying from the western world," he said.
He said that such a policy would enhance Nigeria's cultural prestige and protect its cultural interest.
