Nigeria: Benin High Chief Refutes Statement On Presidential Aide

Abuja — A Benin High Chief, H.H. Omorodion, has refuted media reports that he accused the presidential liason officer to the House of Representatives, Hon. Cario Ojougbo, of seeking to forment trouble in Igbanke land, saying the purported statement was unauthorised and uncalled for.

In a statement signed by the title holder,Omorodion said it is not his responsibility to issue such an instruction, hence he could not have violated due process to say so,calling on the public to discard the statement.

According to him, 'The press statement is unauthorised. It is not for me in my position as a High Chief to call on Mr. President to restrain Hon. Cario Ojougbo, the Presidential Liaison Officer to the House of Representatives, from fomenting trouble in Igbanke land, but the duty and responsibility of the hierarchy in Benin Kingdom."

"If however, there is a need to resort to such a course, instructions can only emanate from the appropriate quarters,"he said.

As an elderly statesman,he added, " I am committed to all efforts being undertaken to achieve peace in Igbanke, Edo State."

It could be recalled that penultimate week, the high chief was said to have cautioned the presidential aide against causing trouble and creating friction in Igbanke land, which was published in some papers.
