Nigeria: FG to Rebrand Museum And Monuments

The Director General, National Commission for Museum and Monument (NCMM), Mallam Yusuf Abdullah Usman has come up with a three point-agenda to reposition the National Museum and Monument to make it reach international standard. Usman made the disclosure while addressing the management, curators and heads of stations of National Museum and Monuments in a meeting held at Mambayya House yesterday.

The three-point agenda according to the DG was to facilitate the establishment of community museums, diversification of museums and identifying world heritage. He explained that the 3-point agenda would be pursued under some cardinal principles.

The principles, he said, includes "inventory, conservation, promotion and research and training. By inventory I mean taking note of heritage resources; movable and non movable. By conservation I mean, those sites that are identify will be developed and by promotion I mean sustainable management," he said.

Usman, who is just two months on the seat, further highlighted the strategies he would adopt to succeed in the rebranding, saying his administration was ready to empower museum to operate with certain level of independence, standardisation of museum, establishment of national museum in Abuja and equipping all the museums with facilities that would enhance its operations.
