Africa: India Plans $1.5 Trillion Investment in Continent

Lagos — Strong indications emerged yesterday that the government of India plans to invest a whooping sum of $1.5 trillion on infrastructural development in Nigeria and other parts of Africa in the next 10 years.

India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Anand Sharma, who made the revelation at an exhibition and India-West Africa Business Forum in Lagos, pointed out that bilateral trade between Nigeria and India has for several years been in excess of $10 billion in favour of Nigeria.

He remarked that five out of the 12 fastest growing economies in the world are domiciled in Africa; a continent which he said is richly endowed with natural resources.

Commending the conveners of the forum, the President of ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambers, noted that the event could not have come at a better time, when most nations are emerging from economic failures arising from the global economic recession.

According to him, the 15 countries in the West African sub-region with a combined population of well over 280million people, Africa remains a major economy that must be taken seriously, noting that the continent is blessed with skilled manpower, favourable climate that can be harnessed as an alternative to power and good forest reserves suitable for the pharmaceutical industry.

Also speaking, Nigeria's Minster of Commerce and Industry, Chief Achike Udenwa, noted that India has a lot of success stories that West Africa can learn from, adding that the opportunity the forum avails would go a long way to assist the region in its collective efforts to enhance production capacity and diversity the economic base through the injection of new ideas and technologies, as well as best global practices.

In his opening remark, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, challenged the forum to come up with proposals that would be of mutual benefit between Nigeria and the government of India.

Jonathan, who was represented by Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, said India holds the ace in the area of education and medical science and recalled the role Indians played in the education of many Nigerians.

It,s supposed to be good news but there,s a problem, India can,t feed herself, with multitudes to feed, where is India going to find 1.5 trillion to invest in Africa without being what they,ve already shown to be i.e CRIMINALS,FRAUDSTERS,RACISTS, e.t.c. We must look before we accept this offer because it,s clear now that countries such as INDIA AND CHINA are desperate to feed their teeming populations and find a home for them hence their ambiguous love affair with Africa, we must look before we jump, not all that glitter,s is gold. Like someone rightly stated, we don,t need a furtherance of the manipulations, cheating, wars, evil minded imperialistic tendencies that,ve been foisted on Africa over the centuries to rear it,s ugly head again, we want to do our own thing and let who,s interested come and buy, period. India, to the best of my knowledge, can,t help us, instead they,ll want to steal like the others, our ability to decipher true positive economic tendencies from the likelihood of evil imperialistic tendencies being attempted, will tell how good we are going to handle these new set,s of investors i.e India,China. We must not rush into any agreements with either INDIA OR CHINA OR WHOSOEVER, we must go into contracts that,ll first and foremost be to our own maximised interest before signing the dotted lines.History of thieving, lying, invading, ambiguous imperialists is awash in AFRICA and should not be allowed again for the sake of the future generations.Long Live, Africa.

The way the Griots tell THE AFRICAN TALE, there is usally an AFRICAN HERO, a VILLIAN TO BE BESTED, and a MORAL to be learnt and disseminated for posterity's sake.

In REAL LIFE, however, the REAL African Tale is this: FIRST...the EUROPEANS Came, Saw and Took boldly and savagely. NEXT...the IMF WORLD BANK Came, Saw and Took cunningly and under the guise of Economic Reconstruction. NOW...it is the CHINESE and INDIANS' turn to...Come, See and Take...WHAT'S LEFT OF AFRICAN NATURAL RESOURCES. What's left of African Pride. What's left of Africans' tenuous grip upon a shaky claim to possession of the SAME quality and degree of HUMAN BIOLOGICAL ORGANS such as BRAINS (..to Think..), and SPINE (..to Stand Strong...), and HEARTS (..to Humanise...) and HANDS (...not just to wield 'n wave machetes, but to WORK - FOR SELF...).

Truly, THE AFRICAN TALE is - as is has been for far too long now, continuing to wag the sorriest of common-breed, cringing, scavenging DOGS.
