Nigeria: Anambra - INEC Accredits 33 Observers for Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday in Abuja released the names of 33 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), stakeholders and interest groups which it has accredited to observe the February 6, governorship election in Anambra state.

INEC acting Director of Publicity, Emmanuel Umenger, in a statement warned groups and individuals not accredited to avoid participating in the observation exercise.

The accredited groups include the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), International Organisation for Sustainable Development (IOSD), League of Anambra Professionals, US Embassy and the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters.

Others are the Senate Committee on INEC, Islamic Development Centre, The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Human Rights Monitor (HRM), Rights Monitoring Group (RMG), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) among others.

"Organisations, groups or individuals not accredited should, under no circumstances be involved in the election observation process. The approved organisation are therefore requested to forward to the commission names and telephone numbers of their representatives/observers for accreditation on or before Monday, February 1,2010," Umenger said.
