Central Africa: New governor of Central African States Bank promises transparency

28 — - The new governor of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC), the Equatorial Guinean Lucas Abaga Nchama, pledged to work "transparently", reported the national radio this Thursday.

The BEAC has recently been shaken by financial scandals that led to the sacking of former governor, Philibert Andjembe.

Between 2004 and 2005, the hijacking of an amount of 25 million euros were made by employees of the Bank.

On Monday, Mr. Lucas Abaga Nchama met in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema.

The radio said that "the president Teodoro Obiang Nguema has asked Lucas Abaga Nchama to "defend the honour" of his country and avoid doing stupid things."
