Enugu — As the February 6, 2010 Governorship election in Anambra State approaches, Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Emmanuel Chukwuma, has urged the electorate to shun moneybag politicians and vote a candidate who would take the state to greater heights.
Chukwuma, who briefed journalists in his office, said with the level of intelligentsia and business tycoons in Anambra State, the people should be able to know who would move the state forward and vote for the right candidate.
He enjoined the electorate to aim at a candidate that would make Anambra better than what it is today, and not a money manager or somebody who would loot the resources of the state in a twinkle of an eye.
The cleric also cautioned against external interference in the forthcoming polls, adding that the people of the state should be allowed to choose a governor through a free and transparent process, devoid of rigging.
Chukwuma said: "I have said it before and I am still saying it that Anambra State is going to be a test case for Nigeria.
"Anambra at this time with knowledgeable and intelligent business tycoons should know what they want. With the caliber of people coming out now, people should not vote on party level. People should think about who can make Anambra to move forward and they should shun money bag politicians.
"They should aim at who should make Anambra better than what it is today. They should vote for the candidate of great integrity who loves Anambra State to make the state better. Somebody who is not a money manager and somebody who is not coming again to grab. I think if they vote for candidate of integrity and not on party platform, then Anambra will be better for it," Chukwuma stated.
