When at his swearing in for a second term of four years in May 2007, the Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, promised citizens of the state a secure future, he did not reckon with the enormous difficulties, political and economic, that would challenge his vision. His first term in office have been employed to lay a foundation in the areas of infrastructural development, expansion of sporting activities, road rehabilitation, provision of affordable housing, and growing tourism and industrial development.
Naturally, therefore, he projected a second term that will not only consolidate this achievement but also deepen them by launching Ogun State on a path of self-reliant economic growth through earnings from diverse sources including oil and bitumen. It is noteworthy that spirited efforts were made by government to translate these goals into reality.
