Nigeria: School Principal Abducted in Benin

Benin City — Academic activities were disrupted at the popular Idia College , in Benin City , the Edo State capital, as kidnappers forcefully abducted the principal of the school, Mrs D. Igbinovia, taking her to an unknown destination

The kidnappers, who rode into the school premises in a commando-like manner, according to eye witness, trailed her on a motor cycle before forcefully dragging her out of her car.

One of the students who witnessed the incident recounted that the fierce looking men went straight for Mrs. Igbinovia no sooner had she alighted from her metallic Jeep when the two suspected kidnappers swooped on her.

Mrs. Igbinovia, it was learnt, resisted the attempt of the kidnap and shouted for help but efforts by few students to stop the suspected kidnappers from taking their principal away was rebuffed as they pelted the students with stones.

One of the students, Omozee Oamen, an SSS 2 student of the college, narrated that the principal was forced into the back seat of her own car by the suspected abductors who zoomed off immediately.

Minutes later the students, accompanied by their teachers, marched through the City of Benin, in protest, to the Government House to register their grievances.

The students at the Government House caused stampede as they blocked the main entrance to prevent any entry or exit demanding the presence of the Governor Adams Oshiomhole to assist in producing their principal whom, they described as a princess.

However, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. John Ejale later addressed the students, assuring that the state government had already set security machinery in motion to rescue the abducted principal.

He advised the students to be security conscious at all times, both at home and in the school premises. He also said they should be wary of okada riders and individuals in their respective neighborhoods.
