Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) with the Kash Academy Team before the commencement of the match between the Team and the 36 Lions during the opening of the Campos Mini Stadium at Ajele in Lagos Island last week.
But for his fervent plea to make needed changes in the running of the football federation and 'allow the goodies go round' Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Sani Lulu Abdullahi would by now be wondering what hit him at last Friday's emergency meeting of the federation.
A grand plot had been hatched by some aggrieved board members to unseat the Omachi Attah Igala over alleged manner he has ran the football federation.
Misgivings had been openly expressed by some members over the lopsided staff appointment in the glass house with Lulu's Kogi state taking over 65% of the appointments.
But the last straw that triggered the move was the just concluded Nations Cup where some of the board members claimed that they were disregarded in accommodation arrangement by Lulu.
The board members claimed that rather than house his colleagues close to the national team, Lulu accommodated them in a refugee camp from where they had to take rickety vehicles to match venues. The matter they alleged was made worse by a shocking revelation that rooms that should served the need of the board members were taken over by hirelings, State FA chairmen and a large contingent from the Kogi state, all at the expense of the football federation.
Another nutty issue was the refusal of Lulu to sack Coach Shuiabu Amodu after the board distanced itself from the former BCC Lions coach. The board had agreed to releave Amodu of his job in Angola, a position that was vehemently resisted by the NFF president.
Daily Independent gathered the meeting had hardly started when one of the aggrieved members circulated a paper enumerating the sins of Lulu. Not to be intimidated, Lulu we learnt insisted that the matter was not properly presented but was overruled by the majority who moved that the matter be addressed ahead of the agenda.
Outside the boardroom of the glass house aides of the NFF boss were seen making frantic calls. In the end the matter was resolved after six hours but that was after the president had reassured his mates that there interest would henceforth be accorded utmost priority.
One of the aggrieved board members, Obinna Ogba, told reporters shortly after that the matter which he described as 'an internal matter' has been resolved.
"This is an internal matter among members of the same family and I can tell you that it has been resolved. As individuals we have right to express our positions on any issue but that is not to suggest that we are fighting. Are you saying that I cannot have a say whether a coach should be fired or not?" retorted Ogba.
