Nigeria: Bayelsa Utd Entertain Afonja Warriors

Lagos — Nigeria Premier League defending Champions, Bayelsa United will on Sunday at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, play host to Justin Tenger's Kwara United in one of the top fixtures of Week 18.

The two clubs have met just twice in the top-flight in the abridged season of 2006. In this same corresponding fixture on July 15, 2006, the titleholders were held to a goalless draw while the reverse fixture ended goalless in Ilorin.

The CAF Champions League campaigners are just a point over the dreaded relegation zone but are confident of improving on their game after the 0-2 loss to 3SC in Ibadan last weekend.

Hard-tackling defender of the side, Uche Sheriff, is optimistic that Bayelsa will overcome their present woes.

"We may not have faired very well in the current campaign but the truth is that we are not losing focus. Kwara United are not a bad side but we are not ready to improve on our position before our fans," he muted.

Indeed, Bayelsa United who have been a shadow from the team that won the league shield last season, faces an Afonja Warriors side that have won twice on the road this term.

Technical Adviser to the side, Justin Tenger says he is keen to see his side to become the first team to pick all points against the champion in Yenagoa this season.

"Our game plan remains to go for the full match points irrespective of where we play and that will not change come Sunday when we play Bayelsa United in Yenagoa," he submitted.
