Argentina
Angel Di Maria
This week the experts focused on the players representing teams in 'Group B,' who can be considered the secret weapon of their squad going into the World Cup. 'Group B' consists of Argentina, Nigeria, Greece and South Korea.
The secret weapon that Maradona has in his ranks for the World Cup is Angel Di Maria. The 22-year-old midfielder currently plays for Benfica, and he could be the key piece of the puzzle that Maradona uses to build on the offensive.
Di Maria knows the Messi-Aguero tandem well, as it was they with whom he shared the bill at the World Under-20 Championships in Canada in 2007, as well as the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008. He could be the solution for Argentina's offensive problems. The three made a great attacking trio at the Olympics, where the side was able to win the gold medal.
As far as European football is concerned, he has not yet broken through as a great player and thus continues in the Portuguese League, but this is an advantage for Maradona, as he is a little known talent to many of the defenders who will face him in South Africa. For many Argentines, Di Maria has everything necessary to be the revelation of Argentina in the World Cup.
Nigeria
Osaze Odemwingie
The 27-year-old Lokomotiv Moscow striker has been Nigeria's best player in the last couple of months and he showed that again during the recent Nations Cup with his mesmerising runs at opposition defenders. He scored two goals in the tournament and was named in the tournament's Best XI by CAF.
Odemwingie, who will be playing in his first World Cup possesses speed and agility, which he uses to trouble defences. He also has the aerial ability to score goals from set pieces.
The former Lille star can play as a first striker as well as supporting striker or winger. He was captain in some of Nigeria's matches during the Nations Cup, showing his organisational ability and leadership qualities.
Greece
Giorgos Karagounis
The Panathinaikos player makes the difference for the Greek national team, and he is able to make something out of nothing to cause problems for the opposition. Due to Greece's lack of top marksmen in attack, the focus often shifts to the diminutive midfield maestro to create the threat going forward.
He is the natural leader of the team and a secret weapon who has become overused but he is still able to do a great job under pressure. A stubborn midfielder who knows how to keep the ball and be the perfect playmaker in the big games, without him, Greece's midfield most likely would have no real strength.
South Korea
Chu-Young Park
Most football fans are only aware of Ji-Sung Park within the South Korean national team squad. Of course, he is the most famous player as he plays for Manchester United. However, it is a huge mistake when people believe that they will easily cope with the South Korean team if they defend against Ji-Sung Park.
South Korea are not a team built solely around Ji-Sung Park. They have promising stars like Double Dragon Chung-Yong Lee (Bolton) and Sung Yong Ki (Celtic). Also, South Korean football experts believe Chu-Young Park (AS Monaco) will be the biggest hit at the World Cup.
Four years ago, Chu-Young Park was the most talented young player in South Korea. However, he had an obvious weakness with a lack of physical strength, as well as a lack of experience. He made a great deal of mistakes in the match against Switzerland in which South Korea suffered a 2-0 defeat and, with it, elimination.
However, Chu-Young Park has dramatically matured since his move to AS Monaco. He now has experience in dealing with players who have a better physical condition than him, with an improvement in his heading ability giving him a new weapon in his armoury. With more confidence, his scoring record has been dramatically increased from five goals and six assists last season to six goals and three assists in the first half of this term. It is interesting to note that he scored against Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique de Marseille, and Olympique Lyon. This shows that he plays well in important matches against big teams.
