Nigeria: Lulu Survives Impeachment

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Lulu, on Friday survived being impeached by angry members of the executive board who expressed some reservations over the handling of affairs at the football house, as well as his second term ambition.

The meeting which ordinarily should have taken just three hours lasted between 12p.m to 10p.m with the board members divided over the chairman's insistence on retaining Coach Amodu Shuaibu, whom some of the board members, PTF and NSC top brass want sacked, following his arrogant beheaviour, flippancy and technical deficiency.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY SPORTS gathered that some notable board members are unhappy with the way and manner in which they were turned to refugees in Angola without proper accommodation.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY SPORTS source said what irked the members most is the way Lulu flooded Angola with his personal staff, relatives and state FA chairmen whom he is wooing because of his second term ambition.

Besides, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY SPORTS gathered that some of the board members are not happy because they were not paid their complete estacode whereas the president indulged his friends, relations and personal staff in Angola.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY SPORTS source said it took the intervention of some influential members of the board like Chief Oyuki Obaski (the NPL boss) to calm the nerves of the aggrieved members who later soft peddle and decided to let sleeping dogs lie.

President Lulu was said to have been able to reason with his colleagues on why Coach Amodu should not be sacked as requested by Nigerians.

He said it would be an act of injustice to sack him after justifying the contents of his contract and helping the country qualify for the World Cup in South Africa.

However, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY SPORTS gathered that the embattled president thanked the members for their understanding but pledged to cooperate with members for the task of successfully executing the South Africa World Cup in June.
