Abuja — The Nigeria Football Federation has penciled down five foreign coaches of which three would be recommended to the executive board by the technical committee and finally, one candidate would be named as the technical adviser of the Super Eagles at the end of this month.
The five foreign coaches include: Bruno Metsu, Guus Hiddink, Ratomir Dujkovic, Louis Van Gaal and Peter Taylor.
Chairman, NFF technical committee, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi said after the emergency meeting of the board on Friday that the technical committee has ommenced immediate contact and that the screening of the five shortlisted foreign coaches would be completed and the successful candidate named at the end of the month.
"The committee has approved the immediate appointment of a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals to be staged in South Africa.
The committee applauded the decision of the federal government, through the Presidential Task Force on Super Eagles' World Cup qualification and the National Sports Commission to fund the hiring of a new technical adviser for the national football team, the Super Eagles."
Meanwhile, the committee that the present technical crew of the Super Eagles headed by Coach Amodu Shuaibu should commence immediate campaign of Super Eagles team B for the 2011 African Nations Championship and other international friendly matches lined up for the team ahead the World Cup.
Ogunjobi said the committee received 10 applications from foreign coaches for the Super Eagles job, but could only pencil down five, out of which the best would be hired.
"The Super Eagles' technical crew as headed by Coach Amodu Shuaibu have not been sacked nor demoted. They are to work with the technical adviser that would be appointed. You know there is a clause in the contract NFF signed with Amodu. The clause gave the NFF room to hire a technical adviser for the team and that is what we are doing."
Ogunjobi hinted that the presidential task force did not put pressure on the NFF to hire a foreign coach or sack Coach Amodu Shuaibu.
"What we are doing now is in line with the contract. We called Coach Amodu and his assistants in Angola and informed them that the NFF wants to fortify the coaching crew with a technical adviser and they all agreed."
Chief Ogunjobi said there is still time between now and the World Cup for Nigeria to raise a formidable squad that will represent the country well.
To this end he disclosed that immediate campaign of the team, beginning with the Super Eagles team B will have to start, noting that series of international friendlies have been scheduled and that both the home based and foreign players would be used to prosecute the friendlies."
