Freetown — Owner of the logging company, Forestry Industry now Gava based in the eastern district town of Kenema has emphasized the need to provide more job opportunities for youths in the district and the country as a whole.
Former Governor of Edo State in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Lucky Igbinedion, during his snap visit to Sierra Leone said the reason behind his visit was to identify investment opportunities and to strengthen his relationship with the government and people of Sierra Leone.
Igbinedion was very concern over the massive unemployment rate among the youth population in the country, thus pledging his readiness to invest more in the agricultural sector in order to provide job facilities for youths in that part of the country.
Some observers maintained that the Gava logging company is more of a liability than benefit to the people as it contributes to the destruction of the environment.
The company has been laying-off a good number of its workers for the past years and its facilities and infrastructure have not been improved since the new management took over administration.
"Igbinedion should first of all try to employ more people in his company before talking about investing in agriculture. At the moment the company has less than 10 people as employees in the entire district," Andrew Samuka a former worker revealed.
"We are happy about his pronouncement and we hope it comes into fruition. Indeed youths in this part of the country are marginalized. We hope more companies will come and improve on their condition," a resident of Kenema, Musa James said.
He further noted that the district has fertile agricultural land that is ready to be cultivated.
