Tanzania: Lady in Red Fashion Thrills Dar Revellers

Dar Es Salaam — LADY in Red raised this year's fashion show curtain with a bang, impressing hundreds of fans who thronged the Kilimanjaro Kempinski Hotel in Dar es Salaam on Saturday night for the annual treat.

Organised by Fabak Fashions, some 16 designers displayed their collections during the three-hour extravaganza described as the best show so far.

With songbird Lady JD and her Machozi Band keeping the packed ball room live with their hits, the female and male models who paraded the designs were at their best. "I am happy. The huge response is quite overwhelming", said a beaming Khamsin Alkaag, Chairman of Fabak Fashions, who flew from the US for the show. His wife, Asia Idarous is the organiser of the show.

Simba Theatre troupe was also at hand to entertain the audience with their thrilling cultural dances. Among top designers who paraded their work included Khadija Mwanamboka, Ali Rhemtullah, Francesca and Manju Msita.

The crowd burst into a deafening round of applause when Asia Idarous' turn to display her designs came, as eye catching models strutted on the square-shaped well lit stage, fully clad in the day's theme - Lady in Red.

After each of the male and female models had completed their rounds, the girls remained on stage and did a South African jive to the delight of all. The night also saw good Samaritans digging deep into their pockets to buy several items that were auctioned for charity, in aid of Mitindo House home for children with HIV-AIDS.

The Chairman of Fabak Fashion also awarded certificates of appreciation to all their sponsors, designers and media houses.
