Akure — Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, on Sunday, congratulated Peter Obi on his re-election as the governor of Anambra State, describing the victory as a huge step forward towards an enduring democracy in Nigeria.
Mimiko, whose titanic battle on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) to wrest his stolen mandate from the former Governor, Olusegun Agagu of the Peoples Democratic Party lasted 22 months, equally saluted the people of Anambra State for making an emphatic statement in support of democracy.
He said their action in Saturday's election has further strengthened the nation's nascent democracy.
The governor, in a release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kolawole Olabisi, stated: "On behalf of the good people of Ondo State, I want to congratulate our amiable Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, on his re-election. Your victory is not only a boost for democracy but also a demonstration of the faith of the people of Anambra State in your ability to take the state to greater heights.
"We also salute the good people of Anambra State for their peaceful conducts during the election. You have by your action on Saturday, made a huge contribution to the nation's budding democracy. We commend you and we pray that Anambra State continues to move forward under Obi."
Mimiko, however, enjoined Obi to reach out to all contenders in the election in order to entrench peace which he noted is essential for the speedy development of the state.
