Dar Es Salaam — SIMBA officials are still numb despite the order from the Minister for Information, Culture and Spots George Mkuchika, that they should conduct general elections as soon as possible.
Over the weekend, Mkuchika said from Dodoma where he is attending the Bunge sessions that Simba should conduct elections as they were directed by the Ilala Registrar of Clubs and Sports Associations Shani Kitogo late last month.
He reminded the club leadership to honour their constitution. Mkuchika order came after some members of the club visited him in Dodoma recently and lodged their complaints over their leaders, blaming them for illegally extending their term in office.
The irate members went a step further by asking the minister to intervene on the club's leadership crisis and use his position to offload the incumbent leadership under the chairmanship of Hassan Dalali.
Mkuchika promised to visit Simba officials in Dar es Salaam to get the other side of the story after the closing of the Bunge session, saying the government is keen to see the problem solved amicably.
When asked to comment about the issue yesterday the Club's General Secretary Mwina Kaduguda refused to talk, saying he is not the club's spokesperson.
"Don't ask me about Simba because I'm not the club's spokesperson, instead, ask me about my family affairs I'll give you all the information you need, anything else ask Clifford Ndimbo," he said.
Efforts by the 'Daily News' to reach Ndimbo failed to bear fruits because he was not picking his cell phone.
Several Simba members are protesting against the leadership's decision to push back the elections from January 17 to May 9 on the grounds that the polls could have disrupted their concentration on league campaign.
The members argued the elections could not interfere with their team's participation in the league and that the club is already well placed to win the title.
The Registrar for Clubs and Sports Associations for Ilala District, Shani Kitogo have frequently insisted that Simba officials must conduct the general election as it is stipulated in the club's constitution.
