Tunisia: CNN Documentary Showcases Tunisia As a Supplier of Aircraft And Security Systems to American Industry

Tunis — In a feature program dedicated to the development of Tunisian technology and manufacturing entitled "Tunisia turns high tech", CNN's Ben Wedeman says that "Tunisia is taking steps to enter the high tech world".

The program which was broadcast on February 5th, 2010 as part of the "Inside the Middle east" show focuses on how "Tunisia is breaking into high tech sectors, long dominated by developed world" by visiting Tunisian factories and companies.

Tunisia's "Eurocast Factory" produces main parts for the Boeing 737 fuel injection system: "every 737 has a piece of Tunisia in it" says Wedeman.

Thanks to the specialized local companies and the quality control using the latest technology, Mr. Adel Saoudi director general says that the "company has witnessed a profit growth between 30% and 50% over the past years, except for 2009", however, he expects the upward trend to resume in 2010.

Eurocast' Director General Tom Wendt, said that thanks to Tunisia's investment policies "there is a real commitment from the government at all levels by improving infrastructure and capital investments, and the capability of suppliers and workers to progress".

At Tunisia's "LATelec plant" employees work on endless thousands of wire and form parts of Airbus A320 systems, which contain 500 kilometers 310 miles of wiring, says Ben Wedeman.

The film also highlights Tunisia's boom in high tech, as illustrated by "Telnet", a Tunisian leading software development company which has plants and customers throughout the world including the US government, and which is currently developing "biometrics" software to the US and to Europe.
