Tunisia: President Ben Ali Sends Message to Algerian President On Commemoration of 52nd Anniversary of Sakiet Sidi Youssef Events

Tunis — On the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the commemoration of the "Sakkiet Sidi Youssef" events held on Monday February 8, 2010, President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali sent the following message to Algeria's President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika:

"As we commemorate in pride the 52nd anniversary of the Sakiet Sidi Youssef events, it is a pleasure for me to express to you, in my own name and on behalf of the Government and people of Tunisia, my sincerest feelings of brotherhood and consideration and best wishes for health and happiness, wishing the Algerian people more progress and prosperity under your wise leadership.

As we remember, on this glorious occasion, the sacrifices and the fight of our brave martyrs for freedom and dignity, we meditate, with devotion and consideration, in the memory of our martyrs, in confirmation of the ties of brotherhood and solidarity binding our two countries.

I am convinced that the Sakiet Sidi Youssef events will remain forever a glorious chapter in the history of our two countries, rich in sacrifice and high deeds.

They will also remain the symbol of mutual assistance and solidarity between our two brotherly peoples and an example for our young generations.

The events of Sakiet inspire us to draw lessons from a common destiny and prompt us to work together to hoist the relations of brotherhood and co-operation between our two countries to higher levels, to meet the aspirations of our two peoples for more progress and prosperity, boost the Arab Maghreb Union and enhance its progress for the good and in the interest of peoples of the region."
