Algeria: Tunisia And Algeria Commemorate 52 Nd Anniversary of Sakiet Sidi Youssef Events

Tunis — Tunisia and Algeria are commemorating, on Monday, the 52nd anniversary of the events of Sakiet Sidi Youssef, a small Tunisian border village which was bombed by the French aviation during occupation, after its inhabitants sheltered Algerian freedom fighters who took refuge in it.

The commemoration of these event is a "symbol of solidarity, brotherhood and common destiny between the two peoples and represents a model for the future generations and an opportunity to endeavor to entrench values of loyalty to the homeland on the one hand and keep on fostering bridges of co-operation and complementarity and enhancing the relations of brotherhood binding the two peoples, on the other", writes the Tunisian Official Press Agency TAP in a communiqué released on this occasion.

"Observance of this anniversary coincides with a significant development in bilateral co-operation, particularly in the economic and trading sectors reflected in a rise of trade exchanges in the last year", adds the communiqué which also highlights the growing trade exchange volume between both countries, in addition, to the facilitation set up in foreign trade procedures and tariffs.

It notes that several preferential commercial agreements concluded at the last session of the high joint committee provide for total exemption of customs duties imposed on Algerian products sold in Tunisia
