They are three points clear from their closest rival, Caiman of Douala.
A. S. Lausanne of Yaounde edged Sahel 1-0 on the 11th day of play of the ongoing MTN Elite Two championship to conserve their lead at the top of the new-look MTN Elite two national championship. The club from Yaounde with 22 points is currently three points clear from their closest rival, Caiman of Douala with 19 points. However, the contention is still on for the leadership of the maiden edition of the national MTN Elite Two championship given that five teams are separated by just a four-point margin and can turn the tables before the end of the championship. Sahel in the 3rd position equally have 19 points just like Caiman ahead of them, followed by Achille and Njalla Quan Academy on the 4th and 5th positions respectively with 18 points each and only separated by goal difference.
APEJES recorded the best results of the day, walloping Renaissance 4-0 to move up to a comfortable 7th position which places them alongside Douala Athletic club as among the major contenders for the championship title. Meanwhile, the setback suffered in the hands of APEJES sent Renaissance further down the drain into the relegation zone where they occupy the 12th position after 11 days of play. It has also been dwindling fortunes for Danay Football Club who despite the 1-nil victory recorded against runners up, Caiman, still occupy the last but one position with only ten points recorded after 11 days of play. Esperances' one-all draw against Scorpion, wasn't enough to enable them move from the bottom position which they currently occupy.
The unpleasant surprise of the elite two championship has been the performance of the mythical Tonnerre Yaounde who went down promising to spend just one season in the second division but who were unable to do it last year and are grappling with survival in the second division as they are in the 11th position, just one place above the relegation line.
