Harare — Cold Storage ComPANY chairperson Professor Lindile Ndlovu has been appointed to the board of directors of the Agricultural Marketing Authority.
Prof Ndlovu is a livestock specialist and is also the Vice Chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo.
Agriculture Minister Joseph Made on Monday said Prof Ndlovu would bring "a wealth of experience," particularly in the livestock field to AMA.
AMA was recently re-introduced to regulate, supervise and administer the marketing of agricultural products.
It is also expected to enhance production and marketing of agricultural products and advance the long-term plans of the Agriculture Ministry.
AMA will also promote fair pricing. This should increase export earnings as Zimbabwean products become more competitive on the global market.
CBZ chief executive officer Dr John Mangudya chairs the AMA board of directors. Other members of the board are former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Acting Governor Mr Charles Chikaura, Mr Stansalays Goredema, Mr Zvinechimwe Ruvinga Churu, Acting Arda chairman Mr Basil Nyabadza and Tobacco Industry Marketing board Authority chair Mr Njodzi Machirori.
Zimbabwe Farmers Union second vice president, Mr Berean Mukwende, former Cottco chief executive officer for Cottco, Mr Happymore Mapara, Mr Tawanda Chitapi and Mrs Nancy Zitsanza from the Agriculture Ministry are also board members.
AMA was first established in 1967 and abolished in 1993 after Government adopted the Economic Structural Adjustments Programme.
