A MAN, believed to have helped a murder suspect escape from the holding cells at the Omaruru Police Station on Saturday, was arrested in Omaruru's Ozondje location yesterday morning.
Erongo Police Commissioner Festus Shilongo said the man allegedly assisted Ebson Tumbireeko (28) in his escape from the holding cell.
The man allegedly cut a hole in the roof above the cell, through which he hoisted Tumbireeko up and out of the cell.
Although there were 13 other inmates sharing the cell with the suspected murderer, none of the others escaped, according to Shilongo.
The incident took place between 03h00 and 04h00 on Saturday, during a shift change. Shilongo said the jailbreak had been well planned and the man knew exactly where Tumbireeko's cell was and when the shift change took place.
A cell inspection takes place every hour, and it was during the 04h00 shift that Tumbireeko's disappearance was noticed.
"We suspect it happened just after the last cell inspection of 03h00," Shilongo said. Tumbireeko is the main suspect in the murder of farming couple Jannie (80) and Toets (75) Kruger on the farm Parry near Omaruru in March 2009.
Two other men, Raphael Kahinatjo (45) and Gabriel Elazeua (32), were also arrested.
Shilongo warned the public that Tumbireeko was extremely dangerous and that anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Regional Crime Investigation Co-ordinator, Chief Inspector Chris Kalimbula, at 081 230 8522, or the nearest Police station.
