Dealers in motorcycles and accessories have now taken over the pavements around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, especially the road leading to the Caprice traffic lights, compelling pedestrians to use the roads.
They have parked the motorcycles, built structures and hang up some of the accessories on nails, which are posing a danger to pedestrians.
Some of the sellers at Caprice said they do not have any other place they could sell these items, but that place.
Others also say they prefer selling there for the reason that business there is good. "Due to the Muslim young guys, who prefer bicycles and motorcycles, business goes on well when we sell here," they added.
But it seems they do not bother about the consequences of their actions on pedestrians who do no longer have access to the pavements. All they know is "business is good over there."
Another hazard caused by these traders in the area is that people buying their cycles test them and in the process disturb other road users as they ride recklessly.
Motorists also have their share of the complaints, as they are forced to be on the lookout for pedestrians, thereby making driving on that particular street very stressful.
They have therefore called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) taskforce and other authorities to intervene, since these sellers have taken over the pavements, and are increasing in number.
